Wills, Probate & Elderly Clients

By choosing Wason Male & Wagland LLP Solicitors you can rest in the knowledge that your affairs will be dealt with professionally. We understand the importance of taking a holistic approach to arranging family affairs especially in current times when the modern family no longer resembles the structure seen forty years ago.

Your family will have a different dynamic to others; often due to the unique arrangements within the family unit that may include unmarried parents, step-parents or step-grandparents, same-sex couples and adopted children.

The make-up of the traditional family may have changed but the underlying principles often remain unchanged; families are about love and fairness and getting that balance when arranging your affairs needs a solicitor you can trust to sensitively and diplomatically walk you through the options and their effects.

We have a team of lawyers who have extensive expertise and experience serving the unique needs of individuals and their families and helping them plan for their futures.

Our complete range of services includes:

  • Intestacy and Estate administration
  • Obtaining Probate
  • Trusts and estates planning
  • Trust administration and other trustee services
  • Guardianships

Our Wills and Probate team is highly experienced in helping people like you plan for future eventualities.

Making a will

The specialist Wills solicitors at Wason Male & Wagland LLP Solicitors will guide you through every stage of making your Will.

What are the reasons for making a Will?

If you die without leaving a Will (intestate), your financial affairs may be chaotic and more complex than necessary.

Your money and possessions will not automatically pass to your next of kin; there are rules which limit how much family members inherit if their relative dies intestate. Only £270,000 worth of assets pass outright to a surviving spouse where the deceased leaves children.

All close family members have to be traced which can lead to long delays, expense and hardship for the immediate family.  At present there is no automatic right to inherit the money and possessions of a ‘common law’ spouse as this relationship is not recognised under intestacy laws.

Assets held jointly, like a house, will be subject to Inheritance Tax.  We can look at your options to avoid tax payable to the government and thereby assist in unnecessary financial hardship resulting from tax being payable on joint assets when one owner dies.

What Wason Male & Wagland LLP Solicitors will do for you.

We will meet with you and following the meeting prepare a draft will for you to approve and discuss with you any changes you want or any queries you have. We will suggest another face-to-face meeting if necessary and useful.

We will also notify you of any tax saving or relief possibilities appropriate to you. Lifetime gifts, pension and insurance policy nominations for beneficiaries and trusts can all provide enormous tax savings.

Our Wills Specialists will also take into consideration and advise on any foreign property you own.

Finally, we make a Will for you to sign and make sure it is properly executed and witnessed then send you copies for your records. Wason Male & Wagland will also store the Will for you in our secure Wills safe at no charge.  A basic will starts from as little as £210 plus £42 VAT, total being £252. So book your appointment today with Ellie on 01707 664888 etx. 125.

Grants of Probate or Letters of Administration

Wason Male & Wagland offer an Application Only service or a bespoke service dealing with all aspects of Estate Administration including filing of the relevant tax returns.  Fixed Fees can be agreed at the outset for most matters and our client feedback repeatedly reports that we are very competitive compared to local firms and significantly less expensive than corporate banks in this regard.

Our team are STEP members demonstrating a commitment to specialist training and qualifications in this field of work.  None of the team conducts work for other departments; we believe that Wills and Probate work is a dedicated area of law that requires specialist knowledge.
